NEXT SESSION BEGINS OCTOBER 12th–SIGN UP NOW>>

You’ve been trying to get pregnant for a while now…

…and the tests and hormones are starting to take a toll on your body, your relationships, and your emotional state.

But you’re not alone. Thousands of women are dealing with the same issues every day (an estimated 1 in 7 couples will struggle with fertility at some point), and yet many women feel very isolated as they deal with fertility challenges.  Friends and family may not completely understand what the big deal is or why it’s taking you so long to get pregnant–and it hurts.  If those closest to you don’t understand, then who will?

I offer Yoga for Fertility classes in order to create a safe space for women to reconnect with their bodies, process their emotions, and meet other women on the same journey.

My goal is to help women reconnect with bodies they feel have betrayed them.  When our bodies fail to work as we think they should, it’s easy to disconnect.   But reconnecting with our bodies is an important part of our healing process.

Yoga for Fertility adapts to women’s monthly cycles: working in the first half to stimulate and increase blood flow to the reproductive organs, and in the second half to support implantation. Yoga for Fertility can also help:

  • Balance hormone levels
  • Stimulate the reproductive system
  • Increase blood and energy flow in the body
  • Decrease stress levels
  • Reduce anxiety and depression
  • Restore the body’s natural energy stores

Plus, discover a safe and supportive environment to connect with other women dealing with similar experiences and emotions.

Yoga for Fertility can benefit you at any stage of your fertility journey. In a recent Harvard-based study, women who participated in a yoga and relaxation program were more than twice as likely to become pregnant within a year.

I am passionate about working in the emotional spaces that yoga opens up, allowing us to access and improve our mental/ emotional wellbeing through our physical bodies.  Using poses, breath, and guided visualizations, we will work to bring your body into balance.

“Fertility yoga class was the highlight of my week. It gave me permission to step outside of my busy life and do something nourishing for myself. I realized how important rest was for our process to get pregnant and the restorative and relaxing postures in class was exactly what I needed to bring awareness back into my body and to really unwind. The community of women was also very important in this time of trying to conceive and Kate provides a safe and warm environment to share our journey’s, it was like having my own set of cheerleaders by my side.”  – Lindzey

Frequently asked questions:

[bg_faq_start]

I’m not sure I want to commit to the whole session.  Do you offer drop-in classes?

I offer this class in sessions because I want to create a safe, closed space where we can build a community and get to know each other–I want to get to know you!  Plus, yoga is the most beneficial when done regularly, so dropping in here and there isn’t as effective as coming every week.  I also offer you mini “homework” assignments to keep you going during the week and help you build a regular practice.  I truly believe this provides the most benefits for you, and that’s why I have 6-week sessions.

Know you are going to be out of town one week?  No problem– just let me know and we can figure something out!

What if I’ve just started trying? Is this class for me?

This class is for anyone trying to get pregnant–whether you have just started thinking about it, or whether you have been struggling for a long time.  It’s a way to meet other women who are also hoping to become pregnant, and support your body through the process.

What would a typical class look like?

At the beginning of class, we start with a check-in: you could share what is new with you that week, or not, and then I ask everyone to share whether they are in the first half of their cycle (pre-ovulation) or second half (post-ovulation).  After our check in, we move through a series of postures designed to support the reproductive system.  A couple times during class I may give 2 pose options, depending on whether you are in the 1st or 2nd half of your cycle.  I will demonstrate both, so you will definitely know what you are doing!  We will end with a restorative posture or two in order to relax completely.

I’m nervous to try yoga— plus, no one knows I’ve been trying to get pregnant…

Don’t worry!  This class is set up to create a safe and supportive environment.  Even if you have never done yoga before, or haven’t told anyone you are trying, this class can benefit you.  If you are struggling to find a way to tell some of your close friends of family, or if you are feeling worn down by insensitive comments from those who just don’t get it, this is a place to seek advice from those who are going through the same things.  And don’t worry–what happens in yoga class stays in yoga class!

Is this class safe if I’m doing an IUI or IVF cycle?

Yes!  If you are in the middle of an IUI or IVF cycle, or are on drugs like Clomid, I will offer you some different options during classes, based on where you are in the cycle.  I encourage you to talk with your doctor about any kind of activity, including yoga, but I am trained to support your body through all of these processes.

What if I become pregnant during the session?

Congrats!  If you become pregnant during the session, I ask you to let me know right away so I can help you modify poses, but you would be more than welcome to continue coming to classes.  In fact, I welcome women to stay in class through the first trimester if that is the best option for them.  I encourage women to start prenatal classes when they feel ready, but some women (especially with a history of miscarriage) may not be fully ready until that first trimester has passed, and in that case you would be encouraged to stay in this class!

Can I take this class more than once?

Of course!  I actually encourage you to keep with the class for as long as it takes either to get pregnant, or decide on an alternate path.  Some students stick with classes for a year or more, and that is great! This class offers physical support through the postures, but yoga also reduces stress and anxiety, so this class can help support you on your emotional journey as well.

I’m not sure I can afford these classes….

If the price is an obstacle for you, I offer a couple spots each session at a reduced rate to women who need financial assistance.  Please email me at kate@katepotvin.com and tell me a little about your situation so we can figure out something that works for you.
